of the 21th century would not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”

Presenting Josh Kaufman, in his books he proves that is possible to go from knowing absolutely noting about a skill or subject to  becoming pretty good about the subject in just 20 hours of deliberate focused practice.

1. The deciding moment:

What do you really want to learn?

What would it look like when you are done?

Are you willing to commit your time in learning this skill? If you answer is No here, then you should pick another skill you are really interested in, it an indication that you really should be doing something else. No shame in that start something else

How well do you want to be able to do it?

Sitting down and defining what exactly you want to learn, you have to have a clear picture of the goal you wish to achieve. Ask and answer these questions.

The more clearly you are able to decide exactly what you want to do the easier it would be for you to find a way to accomplish that desire end result as quick and efficient as possible

2. Deconstructing the skill Here you could use the help of a mentor to help you deconstruct the individual sub skills

Most of the skills we want to learn are not just one skill, they are a combination of different sub skills put together. It make it easier, when you identify each individual sub skill and practice them separately before adding them up.

3. Researching:

Research just enough to enable you get started and self-correct as you practice. Do not allow the research on its own to become a procrastination; if it’s really what you want to do, get started with what you have then you can learn as you progress in stages. This actually adds a sense of accomplishment and motivation; when you get your work arrange in steps and stages.

4. Removing barriers to practice:

Make it easier for you self to sit down and practice that thing you what to learn. E.g. turn off the television, turn off your phone, go to a quiet place etc. Anything that would distract your learning process should be put off.

5. Pre commit to at least 20 hour to this skill you want to practice.

20 hour is about 40 mins every day for a month. Pre committing is a check up on yourself. 20 hours of focus deliberate practice. Promise yourself and even promise someone to help your achieve your gaol. If you are learning to play the guitar for example promise someone important to you that you are going to play a song or two for them at the end of one month and so on.
